The service
A Low-Maintenance Roofline, Fitted Properly
Fascias are the boards along the edge of your roof that carry the gutters. Soffits close off the underside of the overhang. Together they protect the ends of your roof timbers and support your guttering.
Timber fascias and soffits need regular painting and eventually rot. SLW Roofing replaces them with UPVC, which won't rot, flake or need painting, and gives your home a clean, sharp finish.
A roofer-fitted roofline matters because it involves the bottom course of tiles and the eaves felt. Getting that detail right ensures water runs from the roof into the gutter, and the roof space stays ventilated.
Who This Is For
- Rotting or flaking timber fascias
- Soffits with holes letting birds or pests in
- Homes tired of repainting the roofline
- Owners replacing gutters at the same time
- Homes being renovated or sold
What happens if you wait
Rotten Fascias Undermine Your Gutters and Roof Edge
Once timber fascias rot, gutter brackets lose their grip and water gets into the roof edge.
Sagging gutters
Brackets pull out of soft timber, gutters sag and overflow.
Rafter rot
Water reaching the rafter ends can cause structural decay at the eaves.
Pests in the loft
Gaps in soffits let birds, wasps and rodents into the roof space.
Common Mistakes Homeowners Make
- Capping rotten timber with UPVC instead of addressing the rot
- Blocking roof ventilation when fitting new soffits
- Not extending eaves felt into the gutter
- Repainting rotten boards year after year
- Replacing fascias without renewing tired gutters
- Using installers who don't check the roof edge

In detail
UPVC Roofline in Detail
What's involved in replacing fascias and soffits properly.
Full replacement vs capping
Capping places thin UPVC over existing timber. It's quicker, but only suitable if the timber is completely sound, otherwise rot continues hidden underneath. Full replacement removes the old boards so the rafter ends can be checked, and fits solid UPVC boards. Scott will tell you honestly which suits your home.
Soffits and ventilation
Vented soffits or over-fascia vents keep air moving through the roof space, reducing condensation. Ventilation must be maintained when fitting new soffits.
Eaves protection
At the bottom of the roof, an eaves support tray or felt extension directs water into the gutter and protects the fascia. This is often missing or perished on older roofs and is renewed during installation.
Colours and finishes
UPVC roofline is available in white, black, grey, brown and woodgrain finishes. Matching it with new UPVC gutters gives a complete, coordinated look.
Bargeboards and dry verge
On gable ends, bargeboards can be replaced in UPVC too, often combined with a dry verge system on the roof edge for a maintenance-free finish.
Signs your roofline needs replacing
Flaking paint, soft or crumbling timber, gaps between boards, gutters pulling away from the fascia, holes in soffits and signs of birds or wasps entering the roof space all indicate a roofline that needs attention. Green staining or damp along the top of walls often points to water getting behind the fascia.
Replacing it in UPVC solves these problems and removes the need for future painting.
Planning a roofline replacement
Before work starts, you'll agree the colour and finish, whether soffits are vented, and whether gutters and bargeboards are being replaced at the same time. Scott will check access and any scaffolding requirements, and confirm everything in a fixed price.
Protecting nesting birds and pests
Old soffits with gaps can be home to birds or wasps. New UPVC soffits close these gaps while maintaining ventilation through proper vents, keeping pests out of the roof space without trapping moisture.
Why roofer-fitted roofline matters
Fascia and soffit replacement is often sold by window and conservatory companies, but the job involves the roof edge itself. The bottom course of tiles may need lifting, eaves felt that has rotted needs renewing, and the tiles must overhang correctly into the gutter. A roofer understands these details and can repair any tile, felt or ridge issues found while working at the eaves.
That's why Scott checks the whole roof edge, not just the boards, before fitting new UPVC roofline, so the finished job keeps water out as well as looking smart.
What's included in your quote
Your fixed-price quote covers removal of the old boards, any agreed timber repairs, new UPVC fascias and soffits in your chosen colour, ventilation, eaves protection and disposal of waste. If gutters and bargeboards are being replaced, they're included too. The price you agree is the price you pay, and the finished roofline is guaranteed for 10 years.
Choosing a Roofer for Fascias & Soffits (UPVC) in Bracknell
Whoever you choose for fascias & soffits (upvc), ask four questions before you agree to anything: who will actually do the work, is the price fixed or a day rate, what guarantee is offered, and is the roofer insured. The answers tell you more than any advert.
With SLW Roofing, Scott Workman is on every job himself. He started roofing at 14 and has 25 years' experience on the roofs of Berkshire and Surrey. The person who inspects your roof is the person responsible for fixing it, so nothing is lost between a salesman's promise and the work on your roof.
Every quote is free and every price is fixed. Once you've agreed it, it doesn't change because a job took longer than expected. If something unexpected is found, such as rotten timber hidden under tiles, you'll be shown it and asked before any extra work goes ahead.
All work comes with a 10-year guarantee. SLW Roofing holds £1 million public liability insurance and Scott is CSCS registered, a recognised site safety credential. Emergency repairs are available 7 days a week, and standard hours run Monday to Saturday, 8am to 8pm.
